At the conclusion of the 1787 Constitutional Convention, a young woman is said to have approached Benjamin Franklin as he exited Independence Hall. She inquired, "Dr. Franklin, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?" Franklin replied, "My dear lady, a Republic; if you can keep it." This exchange highlights a pivotal moment in American history. The Constitutional Convention of 1787 established the framework for the United States government and marked the birth of our Constitutional Republic.
