After managing to escape, he navigated his way from behind enemy lines to an outpost of French allies, but now, however, found himself in a very precarious situation. Without proper identification and no password to give when challenged, he was at risk of being mistaken for a spy.

Facing execution, in a stroke of ingenuity, the pilot presented the bronze medallion given to him by his squadron. The French soldiers recognized the unit insignia emblazoned on the coin. Impressed by his story, the French soldiers spared his life and provided him with sanctuary. His small unit medallion, initially just a simple keepsake, ultimately saved his life.

This dynamic creates an atmosphere of mutual risk and reward, ensuring that both the Challenger and the Challenged are equally invested in the outcome. 

• Note: It is important to know that any alterations to the coin (such as drilling a hole for a keychain) are considered disrespectful and render the coin invalid in the Game of Challenge.
